Trading Talk: The Final weeks of the Transfer Window

The new Premier League season is just over a week away and squads are still be reshaped with big moves on the horizon.

Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool looked to be off the cards when the Reds moved for Florian Wirtz, but the club seem happy to fork out for another £100m+ player, and where he starts the season is anyone’s guess.

bet365’s Steve Freeth said: “We’re bracing ourselves for a domino effect in the final four weeks of the transfer window. Alexander Isak has been 8/1 to join Liverpool and if he does go, does that mean Benjamin Sesko is heading to Tyneside?

“Well, those of you who backed him at 20/1 will hope so, but we’ve also laid 33/1 about him going to Manchester United. Not the best trading; we need him to stay at Leipzig! And would Newcastle then spend some of the Isak money on Yoane Wissa? You can see our dilemma!”

While Isak has been well backed for top goalscorer in the Premier League, would he score more at Newcastle where he’s on penalties or at Liverpool where he’ll presumably get more chances? Either way, punters are happy to look towards a more predictable – at least in terms of where he’ll be playing his football – option in Isak’s compatriot.

“Viktor Gyokeres sits at No.1 as the best backed player in our Top Premier League Goalscorer market, surpassing fellow Scandinavians Erling Haaland and Alexander Isak,” added Freeth.

“Gyokeres has taken the No.14 shirt previously worn by Thierry Henry and our customers are backing him to transfer his form from the Portuguese Primeira Liga to the English Premier League.

“His opening show of 12/1 has collapsed into 6/1 with the Swede attracting 20.8% of wagers in the market compared to 19.7% for Haaland and 17.1% for Isak.

“Two seasons ago David Raya was quoted at a 100/1 before winning with the Golden Glove award and our traders will be hoping that lightning doesn’t strike twice with James Trafford backed at 100/1 to win the award just days before his move to Manchester City.

“Trafford returns to a club he knows well having previously been an academy player before keeping 26 clean sheets for Bolton in 22/23 and an impressive 29 in 45 matches for Burnley last season. All eyes are on the future of Ederson!”
